Hello, I'm Laura Shea.
I've always loved early literacy deveopment, storytelling, and play, but I did not realize how interconnected these things were. Until I found Vivian Paley's work. Everything changed when I began implementing storytelling and storyacting with the children in my classrooms. The magic that unfolds is something I want you to experience too!
My Story
I grew up hearing stories told from my family. With disjointed memories, oral stories of my life helped me tremendously. Not only that, but I loved connecting with the adults in my life as they told me stories.
As I entered into the early childhood world, I found the power of stories for young children was just as strong. I began embracing storytelling and storyacting. Children gravitated towards me whenever I pulled out my storytelling notebook and began to ask "do you want to tell me a story?"
As I explored more ways to authentically engage children in literacy learning, I saw the power of meeting children where they are at and following their lead.
